This page is VERY MUCH under construction. :)

Thematic Word Wall: If you're going to do several fairy tales, start a Word Wall with the words for that story along with pictures.  As you cover more fairy tales, add any new words needed.  These kinds of Word Walls are great incentives to get the kids to write.

Compare and Contrast: Read several versions of the same story and have students compare and contrast them using a Venn diagram.

Retelling: Model retelling the stories using the pictures from the book.  Have the students practice doing the same.  Then model retelling without the pictures.  Have students practice.  Then model acting out the story and have students practice.

Drama Station: Provide puppets of all types to use in retelling and dramatizing the story: hand puppets, stick, paper bag, etc.

Play: Have one student read or tell the story while other students act it out.

Sequencing: Use sequencing cards, sequencing worksheets made into sequencing cards, or scan pictures and make cards for students to sequence.  Print on cardstock and laminate.

Favorite Part: Have students draw and write about their favorite part of the story.

The Three Billy Goats Gruff

Participating in Reading: When you're reading the story, use your hand to slap on the table for "trip, trapping" over the bridge and a scary troll voice.  It won't be too long and you'll notice the kids following right along with you.  This is a favorite of my students'.

Retelling the Story: I have the masks for the 3 goats.  I copy them on brown construction paper, the students cut out and we staple to a sentence strip to make headbands.  Then we use a table for the bridge, and of course we have a nasty old troll underneath.  The kids take turns acting out the story.  Instead of actually walking across the bridge, they walk around the table and slap their hand on it.  They LOVE acting out this story!

The Power of Three: Use Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Three Little Pigs, and The Three Billy Goats Gruff to learn about the number 3.  After reading several times, compare and contrast the 3 books.

Resources:

Teaching With Cinderella Stories From Around the World (Scholastic)

Go to this site and type in the search box CINDERELLA STORIES http://www.cultureforkids.com/

Underneath the place to purchase the book, you'll see a long list of multi-cultural Cinderella related stories.  The Rough Face Girl is a Native American version that I own.  It's a good story and has wonderful pictures.  (I don't like books with yucky pictures. :(~  )
